My name’s Ruby and I have sickle cell disease. As a Black American patient, my chances of finding a life-saving blood stem cell match are really low, but you could be my cure.

This is my race against time.

Ruby, a Black American child, in a big red chair

Ruby doesn’t have what you’d call a normal childhood. Whereas most toddlers are leading carefree lives full of nonstop play and daily discoveries, Ruby’s home away from home is a hospital. After 27 hospitalizations and 4 surgeries, she’s learned to help the nurses check her vitals and take her temperature.

This is no way for a child to grow up.

Her sickle cell disease may be robbing her of her childhood, but it also threatens her future. Regardless of all the wonderful care she’s received, Ruby could still face pneumonia, stroke or worse if a blood stem cell match isn’t found.

As with all Black patients searching on the Be The Match Registry, she only has a 23% chance of finding a match. But with your help, Ruby can overcome the odds.

We help save lives by bringing donors to the blood cancer patients who desperately need them. Join Ruby’s race against time.
